Short Accessible Parking Checklist
- Does each accessible parking space have a 5-ft or 8-ft striped access aisle? Short video clip showing why 8 feet is needed for van accessibility.
- Is the entire space clear of obstructions at all times, including ice and snow?
- Does an upright sign with the international symbol of accessibility mark the front of the space, visible even when a vehicle is parked in the space?
- Does a smooth, level or gently sloped route lead to a marked accessible entrance?
Accessibility Audit for Churches offers a detailed parking checklist in Chapter 2, pages 22-25.

Can you spot the problem?
Notice wheelchair symbol on pavement partially covered with snow. Even a small amount of snow on an otherwise accessible parking space--or on the route to the entrance--may create an insurmountable obstacle for wheelchair users.
