Schowalter Foundation Grant Supports Camp KIND

Anabaptist Disabilities Network (ADN) and Amigo Centre have received a grant from the Schowalter Foundation to support Camp KIND, which provides scholarship money to families to attend.

Camp KIND, which will be held at Amigo Centre in Sturgis, Mich. June 30-July 3, is designed for children with disabilities and neurodivergence, along with their families. It combines the experience of traditional summer camp with a supportive environment for the whole family. Campers with disabilities and their siblings join Camp Amigo’s Day Camp program in the morning, with trained staff supporting each disabled camper. Caregivers and older siblings connect and enjoy respite in the mornings, and afternoons and evenings are spent in family activities tailored to the abilities of the participants.

ADN Executive Director Jeanne Davies stated, “ADN is thrilled to partner with Amigo Centre to offer Camp KIND, and for the financial support of the Schowalter Foundation for this new endeavor. It’s so great to be able to offer an accessible camping experience for children with disabilities.”

Amigo Centre Executive Director Jessica Weseman shared, “We believe that all people should have the opportunity to encounter God through being immersed in creation, and we are so excited to take steps in that direction through Camp KIND.”

The Schowalter Foundation is a supporting organization of Everence established by the estate of JA Schowalter. Camp KIND is a partnership between ADN and Amigo Centre, which is donating lodging to support the camp program.
