Wings of Hope Camp

Whether it’s laughter echoing through the gym during a game, the rhythm of music filling the room, or the quiet focus of a craft project, the goal remains the same: to provide meaningful experiences where young people can build friendships, try new things, and make lasting memories.

What makes Wings of Hope especially meaningful is its intentional focus on community. In a world where families navigating disabilities can often feel isolated, this program offers a place of connection for participants and their families. Parents and caregivers are welcomed into the experience, creating opportunities for shared joy and mutual encouragement. One family reflected, “Being part of Wings of Hope has helped our whole family feel less isolated. We feel supported and can connect with [parents of other special needs children].” Another shared simply, “It’s a much-needed social event for this community.” It’s not uncommon to see new friendships forming not only among the kids, but among families who understand and support one another.

Each gathering carries a unique theme, keeping the experience fresh and exciting. From imaginative nights like Superhero Night and Around the World, to hands-on fun like cookie decorating or STEM night, there is always something new to look forward to. Seasonal celebrations like the Easter party and Earth Day help participants connect with the rhythms of the year, while outdoor-focused events like the nature walk and yard games invite everyone to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. As one parent expressed, “We have experienced things we otherwise never could have: foam parties, pool parties, and bonfires.”

One of the most remarkable aspects of Wings of Hope is that each event is completely free for families. This commitment reflects a deep desire to remove barriers and ensure that every child has the opportunity to participate, regardless of financial circumstances. Just as meaningful is the fact that the program is made possible by a dedicated team of volunteers who give their time, energy, and care to make each event successful.

Ultimately, Wings of Hope is about more than just activities, it’s about dignity, inclusion, and joy. It’s about creating a space where differences are not just accommodated but embraced. It’s about giving young people the chance to experience the wonder and freedom of camp in a way that meets them where they are. Through Wings of Hope, that spirit of camp, belonging, adventure, and shared joy is extended to a community that deeply deserves it.

In doing so, Laurelville continues its mission of creating spaces where every individual is valued, every gift is recognized, and every moment holds the potential for joy.
